Hidden in the quaint streets of Tsuyama, Cafe Fukujuyu invites you to experience a delightful fusion of history and modern café culture. This charming coffee shop, creatively transformed from an old public bath, retains much of its original character, making it a unique spot for both locals and visitors.

The cozy interior of Cafe Fukujuyu is a testament to its fascinating past. As you step inside, you're greeted by the preserved elements of its history, including the original tub and ceiling that once let steam escape during its days as a sento. Comfortable seating arrangements with soft cushions provide a perfect space to relax and imagine the stories the walls could tell. This uniqueness resonated with many guests, as noted by Yukky Y, who appreciated the café's neat and inviting atmosphere, a refreshingly different experience in the district.

At Cafe Fukujuyu, coffee isn't just a drink; it's a crafted experience. The owner, well-versed in the area's history, shares fascinating anecdotes about the café and its transformation, further enriching your visit. Customers rave about the delicious coffee options and signature sweets, including mochas drizzled with chocolate and cafelatte, which promise to tantalize your taste buds. One guest, Iwakuni Foodie, described the combination of flavorful brews and smoothies as "good," making every sip a moment worth savoring.

However, it's not just the coffee that sets Cafe Fukujuyu apart; it’s the community-centric ambiance that makes it truly special. As mentioned in Kori Planning's review, it serves as a beloved gathering spot for locals, especially the elderly, who frequent the café to catch up with the owner. This strong sense of community and connection transforms an ordinary café visit into an enriching social experience.

Though the menu may not be extensive, with koiyaki as the only sweet offering among a few drinks, patrons find joy in simplicity and the quality of what they do offer, as highlighted by rin n. So, if you’re in the mood for a heartwarming cup of coffee infused with stories, history, and love, Cafe Fukujuyu awaits you with open arms.

Next time you are wandering through Tsuyama, do yourself a favor and stop by this captivating café. Let yourself be enveloped by its charm, warm people, and the deliciously comforting aromas that fill the air. It’s a remarkable slice of Japanese history turned coffee shop that you won’t soon forget.

A great discovery while wandering around the historic district. The owner enthusiastically shared bits of history in the area and has a deep knowledge based on his grandfather's stories. The coffee shop is neat, trendy and makes amazing use of the old sento in a clever way. Cushions are even out if you want to sit and image its past glory. I had a mocha and my coffee foam was drizzled in chocolate with a sign of the onsen symbol.

Wonderful little coffee shop inside an old public bathhouse (onsen style). The original tub is still inside, as well as the ceiling window that used to release the steam from the hot bath. The owner is super friendly and nice. Told us the history behind his coffee shop. It sat empty for 60 years before he turned it into a coffee shop. Coffee had smoothie were both good! We will definitely be going back.
